Walking Break - Day 2

After a relaxing night at Brathay Lodge todays walk is a circular one taking in Grasmere.  From Ambleside follow a quiet road known as Under Loughrigg eventually reaching Rydal Water, here the walk takes you on the fell side above the water passing caves which are very atmospheric especially on a misty day.  After dropping down to the waters' edge Rydal Water blends almost seamlessly in to Grasmere.   Grasmere village has an abundance of tea rooms and pubs so is ideal for a lunch stop and you must try the local delicacy Grasmere Gingerbread.  The route back to Ambleside takes you past Dove Cottage (home of William Wordsworth) along the fell side reaching the hamlet of Rydal, continuing past Rydal Hall and into Ambleside and a second night at Brathay Lodge.

You may like to add an extra night here to take in the Horseshoe or take a bus beyond Grasmere and Thirlmere and walk Helvellyn.  Or perhaps just  a little time to explore Ambleside
